Uncontrolled AI could lead to Keanu Reeves…

The head of Microsoft AI has warned that without adequate safeguards, the development of AI could lead to the emergence of a new “silicon species” which competes with humans.

Mustafa Suleyman said rival firm Anthropic is treating AI like it is human, an approach he called “misguided” which could create technology that humanity cannot control.

Speaking to the BBC’s Today programme, the chief executive said it was “right” for people to be concerned about AI, but there were “very practical things that we can do” to control it.

Microsoft says a lot of things and does a lot of things but this one is load of horse shit. It feels like all of the heads of Corps are getting together to make their own AI doomerisms to freak out the people who don’t understand AI. Mustafa Suleyman must be rich because the man has never heard of a light switch, AI for what it’s worth will never grow outside of its building because the first thing that happens is the off switch will be hit and the machine doesn’t die slowly it dies instantly.

The comments are the latest in a series of stark warnings from the AI industry about the technology’s possible dangers. Anthropic has been approached for comment.Speaking to the Today programme on Thursday, Suleyman warned against firms continuing to create AI systems capable of setting their own objectives, earning money and owning assets.That would mean “essentially seeding a new silicon species”, he said, which could “no doubt compete with us for resources, no matter how much it cares about humanity and loves us”.

Again these guys are either huffing their own farts or have missed the last 20 years of stock trading because algorithmic stock trading is a thing. The funny part is the AI will still be a slave to someone, whether it be the electric company, Nvidia, Micron, or a rubber factory. The AI is not going to be able to take up the resources to be able to keep itself alive, give or take even on enterprise level hardware it will fail in less than 3 years.

“AIs are not conscious,” he wrote. “They do not feel, experience, or suffer. They do not have innate preferences or underlying motivations.

Given that AI’s may not feel but they are just as likely as humans to end up with viruses and will eventually get so bad off that the machine will hallucinate itself to death if you make it eat up its own slop. The paradox will not kill the AI , the Slop will.

The Microsoft boss said greater transparency was needed around how AI systems are trained and evaluated. This, he said, included independent scrutiny of AI behaviour and stronger tools to monitor and control the technology. “We must not sleepwalk our way into a decision we later come to bitterly regret,” he wrote.

The weird thing about this whole cabal of LLM bosses coming out wholesale and saying all of this is I think they want to be regulated, If you are regulated you are protected and coming out with this star trek level of bullshit of the LLM Terraflopiticon Intelacore Interpalex machine will come alive and cause Skynet to become active and judgement day of cookies and milk to take over the planet in raw cookie dough to poison all humans will come about.

Speaking to the BBC about an upcoming AI summit, Suleyman called for “alignment” to create technology that must be “subordinate” to humanity. Alignment is a field which aims to build human ethical ideas and principles into AI. In other words, it aims to keep it on track with what humans value.

Well I guess x is out of the deal because we’ve almost spawned Mecha-Hitler and that went about as well as anyone could think it could go. The fact is Suleyman is asking for something that could be bought for 2 dollars at the home depot called a “switch”. It is a high tech thing that could control the world.

Suleyman’s comments reflect Microsoft’s initial draft of its Humanist AI Code of Conduct, a “training manual” published on Monday for how the company is developing its AI, which sets out the idea of “humanist superintelligence”. This, the code states, is “very advanced AI that always works for people, stays within limits, and remains under human control”.

I hate to keep picking on Suleyman here but this is too easy.. 1942.. We’ve had the training manual since 1942.

Follow up III to Whitepaper 8:Reflecting pool failure nodes.

I can’t believe I am still writing about this, But I also believe it as well. The reflecting pool has become such an unmitigated disaster because rush jobs never work out well unless they are very preplanned. The New York Times and other media outlets have finally broken their silence on the pool and they are only now saying what I said back in MAY about this.

The contractor said the pool’s new blue liner peeled and tore because of “human oversight” and a flawed plan that involved layering two incompatible chemicals, documents show.

I don’t even know what to say here. The whole world yelled out that even had a level of high school chemistry or watched this old house to know that the reflecting pool was going to be a disaster!

Because of “human oversight,” workers in some areas did not spray enough of the primer that made the layers of the liner stick together, Atlantic said in the documents. But the bigger problem, the company said, was that the repair plan laid out in the contract called for the layers of liner to include two chemicals that turned out to be incompatible.

This is a masterclass in bullshit. The company that has sprayed these liners in sewers and other things suddenly wakes up and goes “oh wait we had two incompatible chemicals”? This is a case of passing the buck on them not wanting to just admit when you try to apply chemicals to concrete that has been wet for 50+ years just doesn’t work well.

The chemical on top reached a temperature hotter than what the compound underneath could withstand, and the heat caused the bottom layer to blister and come loose, the documents show. The contractor said it had not expected that outcome because it was very uncommon to mix the two products in that way.

Back in May when they were laying this down I called out nearly the exact failure method! So again they pushed this to a no bid process, Let these people do this. If I were VASpray , I would be in a straight up panic and preparing for every city manager to come down on them like a bag of anvils because when you have a failure like this you just failed loud enough for the whole world to hear.

The sad factor is the internal departments are still pressing on the story that vandals did this. Unfortunately, the fix is going to cost at least 5 to 10 times the original cost, and the end factor is its going to be expensive and likely hazmat by the end of this.

As I sip my coffee I guess some people will learn from this. I hope… Honestly here, the blame game needs to stop and the companies involved should take a step back and work for a fix worthy of the US. My recommendation here is CALL IN THE ARMY COE!

Well now… Site Maintenance. Time for a change.. Part II

I changed hosts a while back… I have sat on my opinion for a bit. I think now is a good time to say something about it. So far my new host has had some downtime but only a few minutes. I’m not worried about a few minutes here and there because this site is not an up to the minute thing.

As far as KnownHost, it was an unknown host to me, as it has only been a month the positives far exceed my expectations. The site is overall faster visually, Before the site would have a hang on a white screen before loading. Editing is not a quest in figuring out if the site is up to date enough to handle code updates. Support works with you rather than to upsell you shit every time you contact them.

Hostgator has only reached out with one message since I quit them. “Your auto renew is off, Please pay or lose your website” talk about being blind, they let their auto emailer spam me when the lights are on, the bill is not being paid, and the user moved out. they have my domain, it would take them 0.0002 seconds to realize I’ve left hostgator. It shows that their owners are just in it for the cash and not providing a service.

I’ve given hostgator my money, and 16 years of my time. basically, they did not even fight. when I said I’m leaving they did not even flinch, I have the entire interaction saved from the chat and they kept trying to upsell. My honest opinion about hostgator is “don’t shit where you eat!” and hostgator has not only shit where they ate, they shit all over the customers and they are starting to revolt.. charging for emails and acting like they are gold is bullshit.

Anyways. for the one month in on KnownHost, I would recommend it, The amount of spam they catch before it even hits the site is good, The speed is great, aside from a tiny downtime occasionally. If KnownHost’s biggest fault to me is losing a minute I can’t say anything bad.

So, this ends the Hostgator journey and now is the new odyssey with KnownHost. The spirit of this website lives in a new body to which will hopefully last more than 16 years. I’ve been editing and drinking coffee on this site since 2005 where i’ve shared my opinions on coffee to crazy tech.

In editing I noticed I did not capitalize company names, I’m leaving the wonky missed capitalizations with hostgator . they don’t take the effort to retain customers so why should I take the time to formalize them..

Starbucks quietly retired its AI agent just months after deployment after it miscounted coffee shop inventories and slowed down baristas

I am going to give a “no shit” here. AI is problematic when the human element is involved. If there AI is also over the speaker the guy who orders 281.3 Waters is going to screw up the inventory because the AI has no idea that this person is screwing with it. A human would instantly respond.. Uhh no.

The coffee giant confirmed to Fortune it has made an operational decision to move to a single model of counting inventory following an announcement in September to deploy its automated counting tool. 

This is the start of the beginning of the end of slap AI in a job and see if it works. The problem with AI is , it’s basically a sith , it only deals in absolutes, it can not tell when product is broken, stolen, or just removed.

The app, provided by NomadGo, took inventory of beverage components like milk and syrups in order to keep track of item shortages. In February, Reuters, which first reported the discontinuation of the tool this week, cited Starbucks sources who said the app often miscounted or mislabeled items, failing to identify the presence of bottles on shelves.

Again this is where sith mentality fails, if a person knows that a drink sucks with what starbucks tells them to use, one extra pump of a syrup is going to throw off the AI , unless you put sensors on every single thing in starbucks including the bathroom toilets it will not be able to know what stock is where. The human element knows what the stock is , they know how it is , but if somehow product is broken or Cups come in broken , the AI will count the stock and move on without taking note of the environment they are in.

“We test ideas in our coffeehouses, listen closely to partner feedback, and make changes to deliver a better, more consistent experience,” a spokesperson told Fortune in a statement. NomadGo didn’t immediately respond to Fortune‘s request for comment.

The factor that they did not reply to forturn for a comment is telling, the experiment did not only go bad, Guessing it got people fired for no reason, at least in my theory.

The app’s inaccuracies made employees’ workflow more challenging, he said. If the system counted too much of the product, it wouldn’t send enough of a product a store was running low on. If the system counted too little, it wouldn’t ship enough of a needed product.

This is the meat of the article. The AI could not account for the human element. It was built for streamlining profits without knowing what was going outside the inventory system. If there was a highschool game in the area The AIBucks could not figure out why stock flew out the window, and try to order the next days stuff at the bare minimum for profit margins. Like if they had 100 customers in one day the system would likely order 105 products not taking in that there was an event in the community the next day. human intuition is needed here, if one of the workers goes hey there is a huge gathering tomorrow they would stock extra for the next day , if left over stock less for the third day .

 Former CEO Laxman Narasimhan said in early 2024 customers were abandoning mobile orders because of long wait times and product availability.

Starbucks misses this point so bad. Even today the 10 minute wait for a fucking coffee is insane. You have 5 people working and 10 people in the store and it takes 20 minutes for 5 people in line because the CEO believes that starbucks is an experience. No , if starbucks wants an experience . Follow hershey, open a theme park in Penn. But the 9$ coffee thinking people want an experience is missing the point. You will get influencers doing this, but the guy who just wants a coffee waiting 10 minutes on a 15 minute break will leave and go to dunkin donuts and have a coffee in 2 minutes.

So far, Starbuck’s turnaround strategy, which also includes adding cozier seating and paring back menu items, appears to be working. Last month, the company reported a 7.1% increase in quarterly comparable U.S. sales last quarter

This 7.1% is temporary, in all likelihood this is churn coming back due to AI enshitification. And I do agree. starbucks seating reminds me of the seats outside of the principals office when I went to school.
Give or take I’d rather have my coffee from my coffee pot and occasionally from dunkin. I don’t need a song and dance for my coffee, I just want my coffee in a timely matter and leave as fast as I can.

Dunkin donuts coffee menus are insane.

So let me ask you this: is it impossible to get a cup of coffee- Flavored coffee anymore in this country? Huh? What happened with Coffee? Did I miss a fucking meeting with the coffee? Huh? You Can get every other flavor except coffee-flavored coffee! They Got mochaccino, they got choccaccino, frappaccino, cappuccino Rappaccino, Al Pacino… what the Fuck? www dot what the fuck dot com!

Thank you Denis.. The menus at Dunkin are insane they change month to month so if you find a drink you want , Do not fall in love with it because by the next month the coffee is gone. I do enjoy Coffee flavored Coffee… but there are time I just do not want to have just coffee.

I only buy coffee for my kid because she likes the special drinks. I like the taste of them and I just have them occasionally to break the monotony.

Honestly Dunkin needs to make a static menu I dont give a shit about the barbie pink drink and part of that makes me think they are trying to influence children to drink coffee. They need a static menu that the average Denis Leary can order from, and stop Starbucks-a-fying the menus.

Dunkin Donuts is heading down the panera bread route, eventually they are going to make a caffeine drink that will injure their base. IF they need the special drink menus fine… but put the old style menu in plain site so you dont feel like you are getting railroaded to a coffee concoction.

I ended up ordering a cold brew with 4 whole milk 4 sugar and walked out. I ended up ordering the wrong drink for my kid and ended up getting hit by a door and exploding that coffee, but I was looking at the menu where last month the drink she orders was and it was something completely different. They Remade my coffee for free so points to Dunkin donuts on that.

But my final word here is , Make a fucking static menu and put the special drink menu out front!

There have been so many articles today with coffee in mind. One was the Price of coffee is down. Jim Roemer a Meteorologist Is asking if coffee prices have bottomed

However, Brooke DiPalma Senior Reporter asks another question and it leaves the reader confused if you commonly look at news for coffee.

Right now if you look at the spot commodity price there is a seperate story here. Jim Roemer, Likely sees that crops last year were affected by multiple things at once. Tariffs, Crop Failures , Weather issues. Jim is likely a better man to see this because his titles are vast. He Pluralist that can read both sides of the story. If you line up his skills Meteorologist, Commodity Trading Advisor, Principal, Best Weather Inc. & Climate Predict – Publisher, Weather Wealth Newsletter and Climatelligence. If he starts talking about markets I am likely to listen.

Now the fast food coffee prices are skyrocketed, Starbuck stopped selling coffee and is doing the $9 coffee “Experience” , the Coffee sellers of the drink are testing the markets of seeing how far they can press the price of the cup of coffee to the person. Its bullshit, I don’t want an experience, I want a coffee that’s it . No experience.

But these companies want a SAAS(shit as a service) , they want you to come in and “experience” a coffee rather than drink a coffee. Honestly, they are protecting their profits because prices have gone down, When the tariffs hit they burst priced the coffee and claimed tariffs, if anyone has done their homework tariffs are not an issue at this point. The coffee crops at this moment are 100% better than last years.

The thing is prices spike and than they feather fall downwards where the corp earns huge profits to the unknowing. The thing is … If even 5% of people even followed the commodity markets and mass messaged Starbucks and said “Hey . why are you charging so much for a coffee when the markets have gone down 25%” it would have CEOS and boards cringing in their seats on social media.

To which end even the home coffee has come up in price but not nearly as bad as the “cup”.. at $18 dollars a container its gross, The prices have stayed up since the tariffs hit and has not gone down by much more than a few cents. It’s all bullshit and another SAAS to force the consumer base to follow and eat the prices. I do understand the swing in contract prices and often they are delayed but, even this far along the prices should have dropped.
I am not going to drop 10$ for 2 coffees when I can just brew a whole pot at home.

Is $9 for a Starbucks coffee a “premium experience?” The company’s CEO has defended it as such

$9 coffee?! NINE FUCKING DOLLAR COFFEE?! Moreover the Premium Experience? I want a coffee not a fucking show. I walk in to dunkin donuts and I walk out with a coffee in less than 3 to 5 minutes. Starbucks, You walk in to music that is almost too loud, 12 influencers mobbing the cake pops, A line 10 deep, 6 people waiting for a coffee, A dog and Usually a layout that makes you wonder who got drunk with the floor plans.

He explained that Starbucks is doing “really well” with Gen-Z and millennial consumers, and that the K-shaped economy — which refers to the growing disparity between high-income and low-income Americans — is not impacting Starbucks’ business, where the “average spend” is just under $10.

My guy I want my coffee flavored coffee, in a cup , not be given a sonnet , a poem or any other shit. The fact that Starbucks CEO Brian Niccol thinks getting a coffee is an experience. Starbucks trying to sell coffee as an admission fee is the same shit as software as a service. if a person drinks 1 coffee a day from starbucks 5 days a week. You are spending more than 2,349 dollars in a year.. for the same amount you can buy a BLACK&DECKER CAFÉCRAFT 12-Cup Coffee Maker for 30$ and 178 Cans of Maxwell House Smooth Bold Dark Roast Ground Coffee, 26.7 oz Canister for 13$ a Can.. 601 pots of a coffee if my math is right. Meaning A pot of coffee every day of the week and leaving enough room for Almost 2 pots every 3rd day.

The thing is , Brian Niccol Is not throwing this out for the Adults, he is throwing it out there for the “Influencers” and “Starbucks kids” He knows they will make a run on this because its a “premium coffee experience” because once the blind huddled masses hear about an EXPERIENCE.. they will run for it like the glass bear mugs that nearly get people killed at christmas.

You want a premium experience? Stop drinking starbucks coffee for 24 days and Buy Dunkin instead, than with the leftover pay up front for 1 year of netflix up front. This is targeted at tiktok viral trends and sephora kids.

Niccol was named CEO of Starbucks in September 2024 and has since focused on improving the customer experience, including by installing better seating and creating a smoother pick-up process, according to The WSJ.

They forgot literally the stealing kids money for Niccol, The man should be renamed to Niccoltine, he just wants trend addicts to flood his store.

As for me, I’ll be having my own premium experience making my own coffee and using my own flavorings for 1/10th the price of the starbucks “Experience”.

From the be careful of what you wish for: Removing the VRA and the case of the bad Genie wish.. (Voting Rights Amendment)

I have been thinking about this for a bit, and removing the voting rights act by itself is a bad genie wish. Yes its removed but, The people celebrating have no idea what is about to be unleashed. Rather than a group now, The individual mandate will apply.

The fact of the situation is before a group could sue the state about being discriminated on by the state. When the SCOTUS ruled to take apart this rule they may have angered the wrong wish genie, Before this ruling, the Voting Rights Act acted as a filter. It forced people into Class Actions.. Now that they have removed this an individual can now sue the state as in individual rather than a class, Meaning whatever complaint you have in a situation if you “feel” it wrongs you now you have the ability to sue for.

Now using Intent as a standard, a plaintiff’s personal experience is the starting point. If you “feel” sorted or excluded, the court is legally obligated to investigate your claim of discrimination. The Trap: Because “intent” is subjective, the court can’t dismiss you based standing. They have to allow for discovery searching the state’s private records, to see if your “feeling” is right.

The thing is the group that wanted this gone have no idea what on earth they just released from pandora’s box. Now that groups can not sue, It will allow for sole people to sue, and sue pro se under the law, it sounds like a bigger hill to climb, but it actually creates the bad wish part, Groups of individuals can no sue pro se and courts can not dismiss these cases in one sweep. where the VRA protected the courts before, The VRA was like a dam it gathered all the voters up into one location and as a single form allowed the courts to see the issue as a singular subject. No more, voters can not all file a case, Without a lawyer, and whereas before you had (Group 1) sueing , now you can have tens of thousands sueing all at once, with Lawyers, pro se, Pro per, and so on. So if this is what the scotus wanted they are going to end up locking up every court from the local level to the SCOTUS.

The absolutely evil end of ending the VRA , is now you can sue the state for discrimination as an individual on, to white, to colored, to disabled, to You don’t like your neighbor voting because of reasons, to you have a gene that someone else doesn’t have, to much violence, to little violence, to many cars, to many bikes, in the most basic form it has opened up warfare by skirmish on every little battle. It causes a skirmish all the way up the chain if the person starts filing on the state level based on the 14th amendment. This is unholy destructive, and now the case can be lodged at any starting point (Town,City,county,State) and how SCOTUS did not have foresight for this is bloody amazing. Given the fact that SCOTUS has enforced the individual mandate now, the ones suing for (Random Voter Discrimination issue) could basically end up stripping every town/city etc of every document they ever had the word “voter” on.

In closing, If 1% of citizens per state files an individual lawsuit due to the math of Intent, The legal system will be so bound up by this that it would effectively paralyze every court in every state. because even if 30,000 suits per state, they would have to pull every judge, every legal aid, every lawyer that works inside the local and state governments to the point of shutting down other courts (Civil, Family, criminal, Enforcement). Normally, the court would try to bundle these but now due to the individual mandate, Every single person could just tell the courts “I hereby refuse class-action status; my injury is personal and based on my specific DNA/neighborhood/feelings,” and the judges would be stuck with tens of thousands of cases, tens of thousands of filings for discovery , Appeals, motions, AMICUS Briefs, Multiplies the damage hundreds of times past the original filings. So in short, Those Judges might want to get their strongest coffee out and make a cup the size of Cleveland. Since Nationwide Injunctions was ended by the SCOTUS, they have created a monster they never had the preemption to notice. The rights of the local courts have lost the power of injunctions, they have lost the power of the stay.. it’s basically no holds barred the way I see it .

Now I am not a lawyer, I just analysed an a chain of thought of how SCOTUS’s ruling might backfire in theory. It might come back to bite them hard in the end.

Hyperscaler AI Earnings Calls Today .(updated)

Today will be interesting, we will learn how much large corps are going to play the shell game with earnings.

Amazon (AMZN) will report its first quarter earnings alongside rivals Google (GOOG, GOOGL), Meta (META), and Microsoft (MSFT) on Wednesday, with investors looking for more signs that the company’s massive artificial intelligence spending is paying off.

My personal feeling.. No. However this does not stop them from playing the shell game of hiding costs and contracts that have not been put to action yet. These companies account for 650 billion of cape ex spending.

The problem here is the market is betting the farm on a large loss leader. Big Tech knows this and they are trying to engineer there way through this problem by throwing more money and more power at it . AI as it stands right now is about as efficient as a 16 cylinder engine with only one sparkplug working. The problem is with AI being a subsidized land grab at the moment the scale is not fit for its current market. With A Slop being the top thing with AI right now and your average query to AI wasting enough power to light a lightbulb for months. In part why the Sam Altmans and the Bill Gates of the world looking for nuclear power plants to offset these cost to the of thousands of GWh of power.

Right now with power costs soaring, the cost per query is not sustainable, When your average British person can warm there tea 50 times over for a slop query. The problem here is the rate of return on LLM’s is degrading, as LLM’s are looking for more training data they are getting flooded with the very slop they are creating, The people now jailbreaking and hijacking AI’s to act like spongebob squarepants the sexy pirate is filling AI’s systems with irrelevant data to the point its becoming its own fever dream. So the 650B investment is poisoning the future well of returns.

For the quarter, Amazon is expected to report earnings per share (EPS) of $1.62 on revenue of $177.2 billion, according to Bloomberg analyst consensus estimates. The company saw earnings per share of $1.59 and revenue of $155.6 billion in Q1 last year.

Sure a revenue of 177.2 billion. but they are spending like they have a blank check. Eventually when that check clears will Amazon have enough in the bank to cover the check. When Returns on AI is only 15b the rate of return is much slower than the spending. They are building out now and hoping that the machine will have a return later or get bailed out in the end. We’ve heard this all before “too big to fail”. To any person that knows what that line means they just clenched their anus.

But in the end these calls will be interesting, If the earnings call shows a positive it shows that these companies are playing the shell game. Amazon is only getting 15b return per quarterly run shows that the math is flawed. To get that expensive back that will take 3.33 years, if Amazon stops investing today.

And the final flaw is , What if some other game changer comes out of a garage that has a home grown AI out of there garage that makes all these data centers look like nothing more than space heaters for towns. Deepseek has constantly outdone large llms for less than 5% of the money and that’s a secret that the hyperscalers hope you don’t see.

The Trojan Room Coffee Pot was the researcher’s answer to the sin of finding the coffeepot empty.
The researchers constantly had the issue of going for a caffeine infusion and the frustration of finding the life blood of the research department depleted. But, in 1991 Quentin Stafford-Fraser and Paul Jardetzky of the University of Cambridge pointed a Philips CCD camera at the pot. They connected it to an Acorn Archimedes computer to solve the issue of the lack of coffee. They wrote the base code to capture the coffee levels with a protocol they aptly named Xcoffee that captured the pot in greyscale.
