Bouncing around websites when im tired sometimes i just get the What the hell reaction to looking at something…
every now and than i check news sites for anything going on with coffee (hey i am the coffeecommander so gotta check these things), so i see this.
Coffee wars heat up, with McDonalds taking a surprise lead
I had to reread that one.. Just a complete What the hell? so Interested I took the bait and clicked ..
After a short moment i realized i didn’t have to pinch myself or carve my eyes out with a spatula. As this coffee news was not even near local to where I am located… it was the Mainichi Daily News Of japan. McDonald’s coffee around here is pure sewer water… even has the same consistency. Its only good in a pure “must have coffee need it now! emergency situation”. generally i Avoid Mcdonalds… at all cost. I have not eaten there since 2001, with ONE exception which does not count in my opinion. I ate McDonald’s only ONCE in sweden.. but that was pretty much after one of the worse flights in my life due to US airways, after being delayed for 36+ hours getting stuck in the wrong country, than having US Airways Forget to provide food on an overseas trip. yeah, you will eat ANYTHING at that point. Anyways that was a tangent .. now back to the coffee news, reading onward.
A makeover for McDonald’s coffee has given it a surprise lead over offerings from Starbucks and Doutor according to a recent consumer survey, in a shock for the traditional coffee specialists. The survey, which polled 1,280 people here aged between 20 and 39 years old in November last year, asked respondents to select their favorite coffee based on aroma, bitterness, sourness, price and so on. McDonald’s 100-yen coffee topped the list, followed by Doutor Coffee, Mos Burger, Starbucks and Mister Donut.
Mister Donut, wow i’ve not been to one of them in ages. Strangely enough dunkin donuts is missing from the list? but there are dunkin donuts in japan. I have the feeling that McDonald’s coffee in japan may fall under my thoughts why i thought McDonald’s in Sweden tasted better than its US counterparts. They likely are under tougher rules regarding food and can not serve up regurgitated horse piss as coffee. I had noticed in Sweden that the meats seemed to be fresher and better tracked from there sources.
The US on the other hand it just seems shady – Recalls every few months, Cloned Meat, among other fun stuff you generally don’t want to hear when your chewing on that burger. But i feel that they may have had to fall in with the areas local food checks and balances where you they cant fool with foods and still call it food.
